Lennox Legion team falls to Vermillion's Post #1 The Vermillion Legion Post # 1 baseball team had a great opening double header at Lennox June 1, as they won both ends 14-7 and 4-2 over the home standing Lennox Legion team.
Dan Holoch started and pitched the complete first game, giving up six hits while registering six strike outs and walking five, being charged with four earned runs, and getting credit for the win.
The offense was led by Holoch who went with two for four hits, scoring a run, and driving in four. Ryan Nelson went two for three and scored one run and an RBI. Pat Brooks was two for four, scoring three runs. Jeff Gilbertson was one for three but walked once and scored three runs (two on a second-inning homer).
Drew Lawrence was on base four times and scored twice, going one for two, driving in one, and Josh Kyte went one for three, scoring twice and driving in two.
Line scores: Lennox � 7 runs, 6 hits, 4 errors; Vermillion Post #1 � 14 runs, 7 hits, 4 errors.
Game #2 was a classic confrontation of two excellent pitchers as Lawrence for Vermillion and J. Longman for Lennox held the scoring to a minimum with Lawrence striking out 12 batters, and Longman registering nine K's.
Nelson drove in two runs with a home run in three official bats. Pat Brooks was two for four and scored twice, and Gilbertson had his second homer of the day in his three at bats. Not a bad job for the number eight hitter in the line up.
