Teener team suffers loss to V-I-W team at home The Vermllion Teeners baseball team faced the daunting task of playing the team that had defeated them 14-1 the previous week as they met the Viborg-Irene-Wakonda Teener co-op team on Tuesday, June 19 at Prentis Park.
Aaron Jensen pitched through four innings for the visitors as V-I-W built an 8-1 scoring advantage. But the home standing Teeners caught up to him in the fifth and rallied for four runs before Matt VanDreil came in to shut off the Vermillion offense. He struck out seven batters out of the nine he faced in the final three innings.
Adam Brunick started for Vermillion, giving up four runs in three innings. Max Swanson pitched three-plus innings and was charged with four runs before he was relieved by Carl Thompson who finished the final inning when three more runs scored. The result was an 11-5 loss for Vermillion.
Line scores: V-I-W � 11 runs, 8 hits, 0 errors; Vermillion � 5 runs, 5 hits, 5 errors.
The Vermillion offense consisted of hits by Swanson, Andrew Ofstehage, Rich Boyd, Matt Kallsen and Jeremy Yankton. Single scores were registered by Danny Gilbertson, Jared Burcham, Swanson, Ofstehage and Tyler Brown.
The Teeners baseball team is coached by Matt Carda, who originally came from Lake Andes. The team's season record stands at 1-3.
