Vermillion Teeners split with Elk Point After the disappointing showing in their first game of the season, the Vermillion Teener team responded with two exciting games against Elk Point on Saturday, June 16 at Prentis Park in Vermillion.

The first game was a close contest but Elk Point scored a 10-6 win over the home-standing Teeners.

Jeremy Yankton was the starter, surrendering seven runs (three unearned) on seven hits and three walks. He was relieved by Brad Schaack who gave up three runs (two unearned), on one hit and registering one strikeout.

Line scores: Elk Point � 10 runs, 8 hits, 2 errors, 6 left on base; Vermillion � 6 runs, 6 hits, 6 errors, 5 LOB.

Winning pitcher � Ryan Larson; Losing pitcher � Yankton.

Vermillion's offense was led by Jared Burcham who was two for three with two runs scored and one RBI. Carl Thompson went two for three with one RBI. Andrew Ofstehage was one for three with one run, and one RBI. Matt Kellsen, Max Swanson and Schaack each scored a run.

Elk Point was led by Larsen with three for three batting, two runs scored and one RBI. Grayson Pirner also scored twice while Ben Gries went two for four with one run and one RBI.Justin Schmidt went one for three with one run.

Game two was a see-saw battle with Vermillion holding an 11-8 lead after three innings. Adam Brunick started and went three innings. Thompson pitched 1 1/3 inning.

The fourth inning had Elk Point scoring two runs and Vermillion countering with five, then holding on as the visitors scored four runs in the fifth before the relief pitcher for Vermillion, Schaack, put out the fire, saving the 16-14 win for the home team.

Brunick gave up eight runs (three unearned), on three hits, five walks, one HBP, and had two fielding errors behind him. Thompson surrendered five runs on two hits, walking five.

Schaack gave up a triple to start his relief stint, to clear the bases, then two put-outs, a double, and the final out, pitcher to first.

Line scores: Vermillion � 16 runs, 12 hits, 6 errors, 8 LOB; Elk Point � 14 runs, 6 hits, 4 errors, 9 LOB.

Winning pitcher � Brunick; Save � Schaack; Losing pitcher � Ross Wicox; Reliever � James Chicoine.

Offensive stars for Vermillion were: Burcham � two for four, scored four runs and drove in one; Ofstehage � one for two, two runs, one RBI; Yankton � two for four, two runs, two RBI; Brunick � two for three, two runs, two RBI; Schaack scored two runs after walking twice.

Thompson was two for four with one run scored and three RBI. Danny Gilbertson and Swanson scored the other two runs.

Derek Pirner scored three runs and drove in one from his lead-off position for Elk Point. Wilcox and Dan Gregg each scored twice and Gregg drove in four. The other six runs were scored by six separate players.

The Vermillion Teeners have a 1-2 record and played at home on Tuesday, June 19 against Irene.
