Carson & Barnes will set up big top in Vermillion July 28 The smell of cotton candy. The feel of sawdust underfoot. The sights and sounds that can be found only under a circus big top.
Vermillion citizens will have the opportunity to experience traditional circus entertainment on Saturday, July 28, inside the "Biggest Big Top on Earth."
The Carson & Barnes 5-Ring Circus � the largest show to visit here in over 60 years � is scheduled to present shows in Vermillion on that date at 2 and 7 p.m.
The big top will be located in a vacant lot behind Hy-Vee Food Store and the Comfort Inn. The event is being sponsored by the Vermillion Area Chamber of Commerce.
The public is invited to see the lot transformed into a circus city for no charge at approximately 8 a.m. July 28.
This traditional big top circus has long held a reputation for outstanding animal acts including Nubian lions and Siberian Tigers, camels, llamas, ponies, prancing horses and African and Asian elephants.
Daring young men and women will also entertain the local circus audiences with trapeze acts and the double wheels of destiny.
A collection of 100 exotic and domestic animals will be on display in the circus menagerie. There is no extra charge to see this zoo, which will be open the morning of the circus.
Tickets are available from the local sponsors before July 28. On the day of the show, tickets may only be purchased at the ticket box office. A limited number of box, reserved and preferred center section seats are available. General admission tickets can be upgraded on the show day for an additional charge.
