Grant will help assess economic opportunities Vermillion will receive a $24,000 grant from the Economic Development Administration for the Economic Adjustment Strategy for Gateway Layoffs project.
The funding announcement was made July 2 by US Senators Tim Johnson and Tom Daschle.
Due to the recent layoffs at Gateway, the Economic Adjustment Strategy grant will help the community evaluate the present state of economic opportunity in Vermillion. The grant will be used to assess the employment base in Vermillion and plan a development strategy for business growth and job creation in the community.
Planning a successful course of action is the most sound way of helping those in Vermillion find employment. This funding will support a comprehensive strategic review that will help local leaders chart a course toward long-term economic growth and community development.
After the strategic review and planning process, the community will be eligible to apply for further funding to implement the plan they find most beneficial for growth.
