Karen Olmstead has new role at USD The University of South Dakota has named Dr. Karen Olmstead the director of the Honors Program and Undergraduate Education.
The new position is a consolidation of the chairs of the undergraduate, Honors and IdEA programs into one position.
Olmstead most recently served as chair of the Department of Biology during the past school year. The College of Arts and Sciences has named Dr. David Swanson acting chair of the department until permanent chairperson can be found.
John Carlson, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, said Olmstead's experience in other positions will be beneficial as director of the honors program.
"Dr. Olmstead has served as chair of the department with distinction and while this move is a loss to the department and the college, her many talents and organizational skills will serve her and the university well in her new position," Carlson said.
