Post #1 comes up short

Post #1 comes up short In a nine-inning game played at Prentis Park in Vermillion on Tuesday, July 17, pitcher Jason Mellegard from Irene Post #193 held the home team to two runs on four hits as Post #1 came up short in a closely contested Legion baseball game.

Ryan Nelson was the starting pitcher for Vermillion and was charged with three runs on five hits in his 3 1/3 inning stint. He also was the victim of five fielding miscues making his effort remarkable when he forced the visitors to leave nine runners on base during that time.

Danny Holoch came in as relief and held the Irene team to one run, as he gave up three hits while striking out 14 batters during the remaining 5 2/3 innings of the game.

Line scores: Irene � 4 runs, 9 hits, 3 errors, 14 LOB; Vermillion � 2 runs, 4 hits, 6 errors, 6 LOB.

Tyler Vacek went one for one with one RBI. Tim Brodersen drove in the other run. Eric Rickord went two for four, scoring one run. Pat Brooks was one for two, scoring the other.
