Post #1 gains split with Mitchell's Legion Post Vermillion's Legion Post #1 baseball team visited Mitchell Post #18 for a return doubleheader on Monday, July 9.

The first game was tightly pitched by both teams but the result was another tough loss .10-5.

Tim Brodersen was the starter for Vermillion, giving up 10 runs on 11 hits while registering 10 strike outs, and walking one in 4 1/3 innings. He was charged with the loss. Mitchell's pitcher, Mark Jacobsen, held the visiting team to five runs on 11 hits while striking out two batters and walking two. He earned credit for the win.

Vermillion had impressive offensive statistics but the hits came at the wrong time. Tyler Vacek was three for four, scoring one and had two RBI. Pat Brooks scored a run on two for three batting and Brett Mockler went two for four with two RBI. Adam Brooks had one RBI, batting two for four. Drew Lawrence was one for one and scored a run. Brodersen scored once, as did Jeff Gilbertson.

Line scores: Mitchell Post #18 � 10 runs, 14 hits, 0 errors, 9 LOB; Vermillion Post #1 � 5 runs, 11 hits, 4 errors, 8 LOB.

Game #2 gave a measure of revenge as Vermillion's bats continued to sting the ball, but this time the hits (and runs) came in bunches and Mitchell was unable to solve the pitching of Dan Holoch this time. He was charged with three runs on six hits while striking out four and walking four. He was backed up in the field by only two errors, getting credit for the complete game victory. Mitchell's Jeff Culhane took the loss.

Line scores: Vermillion � 7 runs, 13 hits, 2 errors, 12 LOB; Mitchell � 3 runs, 6 hits, 2 errors, 5 LOB.

The offense was led by Ryan Nelson with two for three batting, two runs and one RBI. Brodersen was three for four, scoring two and driving in one. Mockler went three for five, scored one and drove in one. Adam Brooks scored once and had one RBI in one for three at bat. BJ Campbell drove in two with his one for three batting and Vacek scored the other run.

The season record becomes 18-10.
