Stewart captures golf championship honors Allison Stewart of Vermillion captured the Nebraska PGA Junior Championship July 10 at the Highlands Golf Course in Lincoln, NE.
Competing in the girls' 16 to 17-year-old division, she shot a final-round 82 for a two-day total of 161. The second place finisher's two-day total was 169, with 172 for third place.
Rob Schaack also competed in the tournament.
Stewart now qualifies for the Westfield Junior PGA Championship July 18-21 at Westfield Center, OH.
Open to youngsters 17 and under, the Westfield Junior Championship will feature the boy and girl champions from each of the PGA of America's 41 sections, the top two point winners from the boys' and girls' 16-17 age division of the PGA Junior Series, winners from prominent national junior tournaments and members of the 2001 American Junior Golf Association Rolex All-American first team.
The Westfield Junior PGA Championship, a major tournament of the junior circuit, began in 1976. It has become a prestigious summer stop for tomorrow's professionals. Past competitors include Phil Mickelson, Justin Leonard, Dottie Pepper, Billy Andrade, Michelle McGann and Tiger Woods.
