Teener baseball team can’t find the key yet

Teener baseball team can't find the key yet The Vermillion Teeners baseball team faced the Lennox Teener club in a shortened doubleheader on Monday, July 2 in Lennox.

There is little to report except what coach Matt Carda remarked after the contests:

"They're a very talented team who can make the plays at the proper time, and they have an excellent pitching staff," he said.

Vermillion lost twice in three-inning, 10-run rule games 14-0 and 12-0 as Lennox pitchers Paul Ellefson and Kyle Brewer held the visitors hitless in both. Adam Brunick and Brad Schaack were the losing pitchers.

The very next day, the Teeners were host to you'll never guess Lennox. The game was played at Prentis Park where the outcome was more indicative of the home team's capabilities. The Vermillion Teeners scored five runs on five hits, committing only two errors.

Vermillion trailed 4-3 after five innings when Lennox scored six runs in the final two innings. Two scores in the seventh inning and bases loaded by Vermillion gave some hope, but a strikeout snuffed out any chance for a comeback.

Line scores: Lennox 10 runs, 7 hits, 5 errors; Vermillion 5 runs, 5 hits, 2 errors.

Scoring one run each for the home team were Max Swanson, Rich Boyd, Collin Prosser, Andrew Ofstehage and Brad Schaack. Matt Kallsen was credited with three RBI on two for three batting. Paul Hugo and Schaack each had one RBI.

The team's record is now 1-12.
