Vermillion junior golfers play in 'Soda Pop' Open July 20 at Hillcrest CC The Coca Cola Company in Yankton hosted its annual Junior Golf Soda Pop Open Tournament on Friday, July 20 at Hillcrest Country Club.
There were over 90 male junior entrants and a dozen from Vermillion participated. They entered in four age groups and earned places in each group.
The 10- and 11-year-old age group was won by Broc Gauer when he scored a 25 in the shortened five-hole, red marker match. Alex Schaack came in with a 26 for second place, and Jordan Boots tied for third with a 27.
In the 12- and 13-year-old age group, playing a regular nine-hole round (from the reds), Troy Manning scored a 46 for fifth place while Jack Higgins came in sixth with 47. Andrew Pier also played and had a 50 for his score.
Fox Run golf course was the venue for the 14- and 15-year-olds and 16- and 17-year-olds where 18-hole rounds were played.
The 14- and 15-year-old group had Brad Schaack placing fifth with an 82 for the 18 holes, and Nathan Boots and Christopher Moen were "out of the money" with 87 and 88, respectively.
Rob Schaack won the 16- and 17-year-old age group with a 73. Tyler Brown did not place.
