Vermillion's Post #1 sweeps doubleheader versus Canton After the two losses to Mitchell on Monday, the Vermillion Legion Post #1 baseball team defeated Canton Post #53 handily, scoring 16-2 and 12-6 victories in both ends of a doubleheader.
The games were held at Canton on Tuesday, July 3.
Vermillion was short on scoring staff so not much of the Canton statistics are available, but Post #1 results follow:
The offense in game #1 was led by Drew Lawrence who scored three runs on one for two batting, and two walks. The hitting and RBI leader was Tyler Vacek who scored twice, going four for five, driving in five runs. Jeff Gilbertson scored two runs with two for four hits and four RBI. Pat Brooks went three for four and scored a run.
Brett Mockler went two for two, scored twice and drove in one. Danny Holoch was one for two and scored two runs. Ryan Nelson went the five-inning distance for the win.
The second game offensive leaders were: Pat Brooks with two for three batting, three runs scored, and one RBI; Mockler was two for three, two runs, four RBI; Vacek was two for four, two runs, one RBI; Nelson was one for three, two runs; Lawrence was two for three, one run, one RBI. Tim Brodersen got credit for the win.
The season record is now 16-9.
