Williamson will attend county fair Ron Williamson, SD State Fair commissioner, will visit the Clay County Fair in Vermillion on July 19.
Williamson will be meeting with Clay County Fair officials and 4-H'ers at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at the County Extension office, 515 North High Street. The state fair will be held in Huron from July 30 to Aug. 5.
"With the change of dates and the ongoing improvements at the state fair, it is important that everyone have an opportunity to have their inputs as to the future of the fair," Williamson said.
The state fair is for all of South Dakota and is advertised as "The Great Reunion." However, because of continuing financial problems, the state fair faces an annual struggle to continue. The fair is the largest gathering of 4-H youth in the state and is one of the largest agricultural fairs in the country.
"The state fair is a part of
our heritage and I believe its future is worth fighting for," Williamson said.
