Allison Stewart leads juniors at state tourney The annual State Junior Golf Tournament was conducted Monday and Tuesday, July 23-24 at several different Sioux Falls courses.
The 10- and 11-year-old division was played at Kuehn Park Golf Course where three Vermillion boys tied with a score of 41 and a fourth place finish � Brock Gauer, Alex Schaack and Jordan Boots.
In the 12- and 13-year-old boys division, Donny Stewart played 18 holes at Elmwood Golf Course, scoring 88. Boys in the 14- and 15-year-old division also played 18 holes but on both days at Elmwood. Nathan Boots scored 158 to place 16th out of the 60 participants in this section. Brad Schaack and Christopher Moen also competed but did not finish in the top 20.
In the girls 16- to 17-year-old age division, playing a regular 18-hole round on each day at Elmwood, Allison Stewart scored a 78 to tie with Kelly Evans for first-round honors. Karrie Plate was at 10th. The second day of the tournament found Stewart's score tied again but Evans won the playoff for the top spot when she sank a 10-foot putt for birdie on the first extra hole.
Stewart was awarded second place and Plate improved her position to ninth.
Rob Schaack tied for 22nd place on the first day, in the boys 16- and 17-year-old age group with a 78. He scored a 79 on day two, to give him 17th in the final standings.
