Chili-meisters sought for 11th annual Chili Blues The Vermillion Area Arts Council invites chili-makers to put on their aprons and chef's hats and head for the Washington Street Arts Center, 202 Washington, to compete in the 11th Annual Chili Blues celebration.
A Dakota Days tradition, this popular fund raiser for the arts council brings chili together with music and lots of fun for the entire family. Winners receive prizes with first place taking the traveling trophy crated by Martin Wanserski, USD art professor and arts council board member.
The "Chili-Bluegrassy" tunes of The Buckaroos kick off this year's event on Saturday, Oct. 13, with ticket and beverage sales beginning outdoors at 5 p.m. Serving begins at 6 p.m. and acoustic music follows at 7 p.m. by The Rogues, a Sioux City-based group who call themselves "a rebellious band of scoundrels."
Individuals or groups wishing to enter the competition may call Evelyn Schlenker at 624-5444, email eschlenk@ usd.edu, or leave a message at the Washington Street Arts Center, 605-624-4342. Entries will be accepted through Oct. 8.
Tickets are $10 adults/$7 children and $8/$6 for arts council members and will be available at the door or in advance at The Coffee Shop Gallery and Nook 'n Cranny.
