Coyotes open new volleyball season Friday The University of South Dakota women's volleyball team will open its 2001 season at the NDSU Classic Aug. 24-25 at Fargo, ND.
The Coyotes will face Grand Valley (MI) State at 11 a.m. and Southern Colorado at 4 p.m. on Friday. On Saturday, USD will play Michigan Tech at 11 a.m. and Concordia-St. Paul (MN) at 4 p.m.
According to head volleyball coach Darin Weber, there will be different levels of competition at the tournament.
"We hope to see a pretty good mix of teams at this tournament," he said. "There will be some nationally ranked teams as well as others that will be very comepetitive."
As with every season opener, Weber said he is unsure of how the Coyotes will perform the first few games of the season.
"Every year is new," he said. "When you're trying to build a program, you just don't know what to expect the first time out on the court. Sometimes I think we look pretty good and sometimes I see things we still need to work harder on."
Letter winners returning to this year's Coyote squad are Amber Abrams, Angie Bjorkman, Angela Golesh, Jen Hedegaard, Nicole Johnson and Becky Olson.
