Softball team wins first two The Vermillion High School softball team started out the fall season with two victories in Sioux Falls on Sunday.
In the first game, Vermillion beat West Lyon 6-1 with Britta Wohlfaurt pitching a full game with eight strikeouts. With great defense, the Vermillion girls gave up only one run.
In the second game, Vermillion started out slow giving up seven runs in the first inning, but Vermillion didn't give up and the bats got hot. Vermillion defeated Sioux Falls Red 8-7. Dani Weydert went 2-2, with one walk. Megan Kruse, Brooke Nelson, Sandy Bouck and Wohlfaurt also had key hits for Vermillion.
"The girls played well on Sunday. They have worked all year on batting, defense, and pitching and it is paying off. They also hit and fielded the ball very well and deserve a lot of credit," said coach Matt Brandhagen.
Their next game is Sunday, Sept. 9 in Sioux Falls.
