Clubs Vermillion Lions Club
The Vermillion Lions Club held its first dinner meeting of the 2001-2002 year on Thursday, Sept. 6, at the VFW. Lion Bijay Naik, the newly elected president, presided. A moment of silence was observed to mark the death of Lion Cliff Manley who had been a member of the club since 1952 and served as its president during 1961-1962.
A pin was presented to Lion Kumoli Ramakrishnan for his service as the past president of the club. Lion Jacquelin Dunn will act as the club's first information technology chairperson in managing the club's future website and e-mail activities. Lion Dick Oppedahl, who is moving from Vemillion, was recognized for his service to the club since 1969. A round of applause greeted the announcement that Lion Norm Herren's 80th birthday would be the next day.
Lion Ramakrishnan presented the program for the evening. He gave an overview of India's geography, culture, economics and government. He commented that no matter what you hear about India, it is probably true because of the social, cultural, and economic diversity of its huge population.
The September meeting of the board of directors will be held at 7 a.m. on Sept. 13 at the Senior Citizen Center. The next dinner meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Sept. 20, at the VFW.
