Local United Way kick-off is Sept. 25 United Way of Vermillion will hold its 2002 campaign kick off event, "Taste of Vermillion," on Tuesday, Sept. 25, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the new William J. Radigan Fire/EMS Station on Dakota Street.
Vermillion's restaurants will provide food for the public's enjoyment and there will be music for everyone's listening pleasure. The United Way 2002 member agencies will set up displays demonstrating the services they provide. There will be a short program honoring many United Way supporters during which the theme and campaign goal for the 2002 campaign will be announced.
There will be an opportunity to make a contribution to the United Way of America September 11th Fund which will be used to assist the victims and the families of the terrorist attacks which took place last week. (See letter to the editor elsewhere in the Plain Talk.)
United Way of Vermillion is initiating a Volunteer of the Year Award which will be presented to an individual who gives unselfishly of his/her time and talents to aid the Vermillion community. The award will be presented at the Vermillion Chamber of Commerce/Vermillion Development Company Banquet in January. Nomination forms for this award will be available at the "Taste of Vermillion." Everyone is reminded that the Sioux Valley Vermillion Medical Center Ice Cream Social will also take place on the evening of Sept. 25 from 5 to 7 p.m.
