Mediacom introduces cable Internet access Mediacom is bringing the fast lane of the information superhighway to residents of Vermillion.
The company plans high-speed cable Internet access that delivers content directly to computers using a cable connection, cable modem and select software.
Mediacom launched the product Wednesday, Sept. 19, said Area Manager Doug Biersbach.
"Using the high capacity cable and optical fiber already built into the Vermillion broadband system, we will be able to carry a two-way data signal," he said. "This technology will allow customers to connect to the Internet using the cable television system, giving customers the advantage of Mediacom's broadband cable infrastructure for faster download speeds from the Internet."
Mediacom's cable modem technology offers connection speeds that are faster than conventional dial-up services, and allows for easier and faster access to a wide range of multimedia experiences, including rich graphics, near CD-quality audio and on-demand video clips.
"Just point, click and you are on the Internet checking stock quotes, movie times, researching homework, planning a vacation, shopping, as well as an endless list of other activities," Biersbach said. "Customers tell us that cable modem access is the fastest and best way to link up to the Internet. Once they have tried the cable modem, our customers don't want to go back to dial-up and phone lines."
Mediacom's high-speed Internet service is as cost effective as dial-up services. For one fixed monthly fee, customers get unlimited Internet and e-mail access without having to pay the "hidden costs" of second telephone lines and additional usage charges.
A free installation and free first month special will be offered for the first 30 days of the product's debut in Vermillion.
