State 4-H Horse Show held Clay County 4-H horse project members were very successful recently during State 4-H Horse Show competitions Sept. 1-3 at the state fairgrounds in Huron.
Nine members had 23 entries in 17 events during the show.
In the senior division, Megan Griffith and Karrie Plate received champion awards. Griffith earned a purple ribbon and grand champion in barrel racing with a time of 16.357 seconds. She also received a purple ribbon and reserve championship in pole bending with the time of 22.623 seconds. Plate was best in western riding for a grand champion award.
In the junior division, JoAnna Strom and Brittany Rederick were champion award winners. Strom was named reserve champion in English showmanship and Rederick earned the reserve champion award in western riding.

Several Clay County youth participated in horse judging during the state show. The senior judging team of Megan Griffith, Karrie Plate, Sarah Plate and Ellen Kennedy placed ninth out of 10 teams. Megan was fifth high individual with a score of 315 out of 350 points.
The junior team of Brittany Rederick, Adrianne Logue and Sandra Geuther placed 12th out of 19 teams. Kayla Geuther also competed as a beginner with a score of 220 points out of 250 that earned her a purple ribbon.
