Tanager golfers lose close match at Brandon Valley by Jim Prosser With a complete roster at both schools, the Vermillion High School golf team was able to field three teams for competition at Brandon Valley High School on Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Brandon Golf Course.
The varsity team had a score of 172 while Brandon Valley scored 159. Medalist was the Lynx's Carl Lere with a score of 37.
Tanager scorers were: Nathan Boots 42; Brad Schaak 43; Chris Moen 43; Rob Schaack 44; and Darren Martin 49.
The junior varsity was divided into two sections with individual JV Tanager scores posted as: Charles Odson 46; Jack Higgins 47; Joel Anderson 48; Paul Tims 53; and Ryan Powell 58. Cody Black was medalist for Brandon Valley's JV with a 39 and the final team scores were: Brandon Valley 163, Vermillion 194.
Brandon Valley's JV team was led by Jared Bates with 47, followed by Steve Foltz 53, Steve Tims 63, Dan Pearson 64 and Sage Koch 65. Medalist was Anthony Anderson with a 44, as Brandon Valley's JV had a final total of 181 to the Tanagers' 227.
"I was satisfied with the effort of the boys' play in windy and less-than-perfect course conditions," said coach Kirk Hogen. "If each team member had improved their score by one stroke, we would have been in the close scoring territory to be competitive. We needed this experience in preparation for our future matches."
