University featuring collaborative exhibit The University Art Galleries at The University of South Dakota opened its Main Gallery's season this week with "Selvedge and Salvage; Images of Belief," a collaborative exhibition featuring the photography of John Moler and collage paintings by Arthur Amiotte.
On display from Sept. 3-23, the theme of the exhibit is persistence, evolution, and transition of the Lakota Christian experience through church architecture. With support from a grant through the South Dakota Arts Council, Moler and Amiotte recorded 82 historic churches while visiting 62 reservation sites throughout the state. The fabric hangings of nationally-recognized weaver Azalea Thorpe New compliment the exhibit.
A public reception for the exhibition is scheduled on Sept. 12 from 7 to 9 p.m. The Main Gallery is located in the Warren M. Lee Center for Fine Arts on the USD campus.
