Earth Science Week features three speakers Oct. 10, 11, 12 In 1998 Governor William J. Janklow declared the second full week of October to be Earth Science Week in South Dakota.
To celebrate the fourth annual Earth Science Week, Oct. 9-12, The University of South Dakota Earth Sciences Program will feature three speakers:
Prof. Gary D. Johnson, USD Earth Sciences, will present "Glaciers In Southern Brazil, 300 Million Years Ago" on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m.;
Jon Christopherson, EROS senior systems engineer, will present "Viewing the Earth from Space: The Big Picture" on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 3:30 p.m.;
Prof. Michael R. Voorhies, University of Nebraska, will present "Ashfall Fossil Beds: A Pompeii of Prehistoric Wildlife" on Friday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m.
The presentations will be held in Akeley Science, Rm. 125. Each will be followed by a reception in Rm. 210.
National Earth Science Week is sponsored by the American Geological Institute and its member societies on behalf of the geoscience community.
