On Duty October 11

The American Embassy in Dublin, Ireland contacted the Vermillion Police Department with information about an American citizen that had been expelled from Ireland because of a forged passport. There was also multiple warrants out on the individual, including one from Clay County for grand theft of a vehicle. Authorities were contacted in Chicago, where the individual, a 22-year-old male, formerly from Vermillion, was picked up at O'Hare International Airport by U.S. Customs officials. He is incarcerated in the Cook County Jail in Chicago awaiting extradition to South Dakota.

October 12

The Vermillion Police Department received a report at 5:51 p.m. about an individual who may have been intoxicated and attempting to drive. Officers found the person driving erratically on Main Street and arrested the 66-year-old male. He was charged with fourth offense DWI and driving under revocation.

October 13

Sioux Valley Vermillion Medical Center contacted the Vermillion Police Department about a 19-year-old male victim of an alleged assault at 1:38 a.m. A 21 year-old male was later arrested for aggravated assault that occurred in the 900 block of E. Duke.

Vermillion Police Department officers were on the scene at 11:02 a.m. when a female flipped over the go-cart she was driving on Main Street during the Dakota Days parade. The parade was delayed for a short time while she was stabilized by Vermillion EMTs. She was transported by ambulance to Sioux Valley Vermillion Medical Center where she was treated for abrasions, back and wrist injuries.

A restaurant in the 700 block of E. Cherry contacted the USD Crisis Team at 7:34 p.m. about a possibly intoxicated person who was semi-conscious with apparent medical problems. The Vermillion Police Department was also called and a 20 year-old male was transported by ambulance to Sioux Valley Vermillion Medical Center.

The Vermillion Police Department received a complaint at 9:39 p.m. about someone throwing glass bottles off of a roof in the 10 block of E. Main. A 20-year-old male from Brookings was arrested for underage consumption and false impersonation.

A resident in the 200 block of Walker St. witnessed two people at 10:37 p.m. who may have been doing vandalism near the Sioux Valley Vermillion Care Center. Damage occurred on a fence and sign south of the nursing home. A 21-year-old male from McClelland, IA, was arrested for intentional damage to property and resisting arrest.

October 14

Assault was reported at 1:33 a.m. in the 10 block of E. Main. The victim, a 21-year-old male, was transported by ambulance to the Sioux Valley Vermillion Medical Center. The incident is still under investigation.

A resident in the 400 block of Franklin reported to the Vermillion Police Department at 8 a.m. that a Halloween pumpkin had been stolen from a yard light which was also damaged. The value of the loss was estimated at $400.

October 15

A Sharpe video recorder, valued at $300 to $400, was reported stolen from a resident in the 200 block of N. Pine. The theft may have occurred Oct. 12 or 13. The report was made at 5:30 p.m.
