Sioux Falls Lincoln too tough for VHS by Jim Prosser The Vermillion High School girls' tennis team was recently overpowered 9-0 against Sioux Falls Lincoln.

"Sioux Falls Lincoln has an outstanding tennis team," said VHS coach Barb Rickord. "Our girls should never feel bad about losing to better players. Most important � all of them tried their hardest and never gave up.

"In spite of being overpowered, especially in doubles, there were a few bright spots in singles," she continued. "Britt and Michelle both had several long points and played better than their scores indicated, but the Lincoln girls knew how to win the games. But this was a good warmup for us in preparing for State on Oct. 4-6 in Sioux Falls."

Team results: Patriots 9, Tanagers 0.

Singles: Katie Chin (L) def. Maya Ristic (V) 6-0,6-1; Catherine Odson (V) lost to Tara Houlihan 6-0,6-0; Angie Norberg (L) def. Tori Collins 6-0,6-0; Megan McCarthy (L) def. Jessica Leffers 6-2,6-0; Liesl Schwerin (L) def. Michelle Rydell 6-0,6-1; and Sam Rasmussen (L) def. Britt Fremstad 6-1, 6-0.

Doubles: Ristic/Odson (V) lost to Chin/Houlihan 6-0,6-0; Norberg/McCarthy (L) def. Collins/Leffers 6-0,6-0; Schwerin/Rasmussen (L) def. Fremstad/Rydell 6-0,6-0.

Odson defeated Kelsie Mertes in an exhibition match 10-7.
