Vermillion Jaycees host punt, pass and kick meet In spite of a cold, damp and windy day, about 30 Vermillion boys and girls gathered at the Vermillion Middle School football field Sept. 23 to compete in the annual Jaycee Punt, Pass and Kick Competition.
This is a free football competition open to boys and girls, ages 8 to 15. Nationwide this competition is expected to draw over 3 million youth this year.
Participants are scored on the distance and accuracy of the three skills for a combined total score that determines the winner. Winners of the local competition are then eligible to compete at the PP&K Sectionals to be held Oct. 14 at Brandon.
The winners from the sectional competition will get the opportunity to show their talents at the regional competition tentatively set for the Dec. 9 Sunday football game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Tennessee Titans at the Metrodome in Minneapolis.
The final step of the PP&K competition is an AFC Playoff Game in January of 2002, where the NFL Gatorade Punt, Pass and Kick Finals will be held.
The Vermillion Jaycees are proud to be able to host this event for local youth but it wouldn't have been possible without donations of food and prizes from many local businesses. The Jaycees thank Ace Hardware, Burger King, Candy Bouquet, Choice Pharmacy, Coyote Twin, Dallas Jewelry, Dairy Queen, Hollywood Video, Hy-Vee, Jones' Food Center, Little Italy's, Never Never Land, Pamida, Pizza Hut, Subway, Taco Johns, Vermillion Theatre and Videoland.
