VHS Marching Band places second Oct. 6 Fifteen bands from throughout South Dakota and Minnesota converged in Chamberlain-Oacoma on the Missouri River for the River City Band Festival, Saturday, Oct. 6. Over 1,400 high school and middle school students participated in the parade and field competitions at the second annual festival.
The high school band from Luverne, MN, took top overall honors, winning their class in both the field and parade competitions. It was followed by the Vermillion High School Marching Band, which placed second in both the field and parade competitions.
Bands from Sully Buttes High School, Chamberlain High School and Aberdeen Central High School earned first place awards in both field and parade competitions in their respective classes. Armour High School and Chamberlain Middle School finished on top of their respective classes in the field competition.
Bands performed in the street competition on Chamberlain's Main Street with the field competition following on the Don Giese Field at Chamberlain High School Saturday afternoon. A team from Alexandria, MN, judged the competitions.
