Dedication day It's official � the long-awaited Newcastle/Vermillion Bridge is finally open to the public! It's official � the long-awaited Newcastle/Vermillion Bridge is finally open to the public! Road blocks were pulled Thursday, Nov. 1 at 3 p.m. and drivers from both South Dakota and Nebraska were able to experience first-hand a dream come true. The Newcastle/Vermillion Bridge Committee will host formal dedication ceremonies on the bridge Nov. 10 at 10 a.m. From left, Dr. Jim Green, committee co-chair representing the South Dakota side, Vermillion Mayor Roger Kozak, and Clay County Commission Chair Jerry Sommervold invite the public to join in the festivities. Special guest speakers will be featured and a lunch will be served at the Newcastle Fire Hall immediately following the ceremony.
