Gilkyson honored for soccer skills Jenna Gilkyson has been named to the Class A All-State Soccer Second Team for the 2001 high school season.
Gilkyson, a junior defender, has been a two-year starter for the Vermillion Tanagers.
Selection to the All-State Team places Gilkyson among the top 15 percent of varsity high school soccer players in the state. She becomes the sixth Lady Tanager athlete to be selected as a first team or second team All-State player.
"Jenna possesses all of the attributes that make up an exceptional defensive back," said coach Jeff Pederson. "She is an outstanding competitor with great strength and good speed, and she is willing to attack upfield as well. She is very physical, and is very adept at knocking attacking players off from the ball as well as shielding defenders from the ball when she is in possession."
Gilkyson also was recognized by her Tanager teammates as recipient of the Most Inspirational Award for the 2001 season.
