'New Community' meeting scheduled The public is invited to attend an information meeting on the "New Community" project. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 29 at the 4-H Center in Yankton starting at 7 p.m.
The "New Community" project, sponsored by South Dakota State University, is directed by Dr. Jim Satterlee. The state Legislature has requested that Satterlee present results of the recent 2000 population census throughout the state. His presentation will include data on specific communities in this area. He investigates facts such as population change, migration, age structure, changes in farming and industry and present implications of these changes on communities.
Satterlee's concept of a "new community" is an attempt to bring community leaders together to consider local alternatives for revitalizing and rebuilding rural South Dakota.
