Obituaries Hazel Emerson

Hazel Marie (Trudeau) Emerson, 74, died Oct. 30, 2001 at Wel-Life in Elk Point.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. at United Parish Church in Elk Point. Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church, with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Mrs. Emerson was born Dec. 27, 1926 at Elk Point to Henry and Myrtle (Upton) Trudeau. She graduated from Elk Point High School in 1946. She married Lester E. Emerson June 10, 1951 at Elk Point.

She worked for 20 years as assistant editor of the Elk Point Leader Courier. She and her husband owned the newspaper, of which he was publisher. She retired in 1995.

She was a member of the United Parish Church in Elk Point, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Elk Point Commercial Club and PEO. She held various offices in the VFW Auxiliary, including president.

Survivors include her husband, Lester, Elk Point; a daughter, Annette Keeler, Moorhead, MN; and two grandchildren, Evan Keeler, San Diego, CA, and Carissa Keeler, Moorhead, MN.

Shirlene Lane

Shirlene L. Lane, 66, Vermillion, died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2001, at Sioux Valley Vermillion Care Center after a long illness.

Shirlene Kissick was born Nov. 24, 1934 in Ceresco, NE. She married Kenny Lane in December of 1986. They lived in Vermillion where she had worked as a custodian for The University of South Dakota for 12 years.

She is survived by her husband Kenny of Vermillion; one son, Mikal Kissick of Pensacola, FL; and four daughters, Merri Strunk of Cheyenne, WY, Patti Kissick of Bloomington, MN, and Kim Taggert and Dianne Kissick, both of Vermillion; two stepdaughers, Mrs. Terry (Lynette) Clarey of Akron, IA, and Mrs. Jerry (Deb) Sargent of Palmdale, CA; and 12 grandchildren. A grandchild, Melanie, preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Oct. 30, at Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion, with burial in Bluff View Cemetery in Vermillion.
