On Duty October 30

Vehicle burglary was reported at 2:15 a.m. by a 20-year-old male in the 400 block of N. Plum. Several items were stolen, including two pairs of sunglasses, one CD, a flashlight and other miscellany. A red Ford Explorer with Yankton County license plates was seen leaving the scene.

Theft from a vehicle was reported at 8:14 a.m. in the 200 block of N. Pine. Golf clubs, a cell phone, check book and watch were reported missing.

An administrator at Vermillion High School called about an assault. A 14-year-old male student allegedly threatened a 15-year-old male student with a switchblade knife. The 14-year-old was transported to the juvenile detention center in Sioux Falls.

October 31

The VPD received a complaint at 8 a.m. about a vehicle traveling at high speeds into Vermillion from the Burbank Road. Officers stopped the vehicle and found that the driver, a 31-year-old woman from Sioux City, IA, had a warrant out of Union County for unpaid traffic fines. The driver was also arrested for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.

The VPD received a report at 8:15 p.m. of vehicle damage in the 100 block N. Yale. The back window of a pickup had been broken out.

A woman in the 400 block of Bulow reported at 8:26 p.m. that young high school age males were throwing eggs. Officers stopped a vehicle in the vicinity and identified five teens who were in possession of eggs, but it was not determined if they were the suspects in the reported incident.

USD Public Safety officers received a report at 8:45 p.m. from a woman who said her car had been vandalized while parked in a USD lot. It appeared to have been "keyed."

A resident in the 10 block of W. Broadway reported at 10:24 p.m. that someone had shot paint balls at his house. There was no damage except for paint on a patio door.

Fire was reported at an apartment in the 500 block of Elm. A resident had been baking and the baked goods had caught fire. The fire department was called to remove the smoke. There was no other damage.

November 1

A resident in the 500 block of Adam St. reported at 2:09 a.m. that she had witnessed another car strike her vehicle and leave the scene. She saw the offending vehicle parked on Lincoln St. and officers arrested a 21-year-old male from Sioux Falls for DWI and hit and run.

USD Public Safety officers received a report of vandalism at 4 a.m. An 18-year-old male's red Chevy Corvette was vandalized while parked in a university lot.

Vehicle vandalism was reported at 7:56 a.m. in the 10 block of E. Main while the car was parked there overnight. The front tires had been slashed.

November 2

A resident in the 500 block of Valley View reported at 10:28 a.m. that his residence had been shot at with paint balls.

November 3

A resident in the 200 block of Willow reported that someone had taken the top of her bird bath off and rolled it down the street. Bricks on the porch and a picket fence were also damaged.

November 5

Vandalism was reported in the 1400 block of E. Cherry. A post holding two mail boxes in front of a residence had been bent to the ground.
