Strollers to host chili cook-off fund raiser for September 11 The University of South Dakota Strollers student organization will host its first annual charity chili cook-off and feed Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the National Guard Armory in Vermillion at 6 p.m.
Tickets for the event ($3 per person) will be sold in the Coyote Student Center on the USD campus Nov. 5-6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The entire proceeds from the event will go to the September 11th Relief Fund.
While anyone may enter, Strollers has compiled a list of businesses, local establishments, Greek chapters, and restaurants that will participate in the contest. A panel of tasters will judge the event: Strollers advisors Holly Straub and Mike Turchen; USD Greek Life Advisor Genevieve Evans Taylor; Dean of Students Dave Lorenz; Colette Abbott; and Greek chapter presidents.
Awards will be given for best chili as well as prizes for winners in other categories.
"Strollers feel like they want to make a difference in some way, and by organizing a chili cook-off, we are able to meet members of our community and contribute to a worthy cause at the same time," said Erica Strait, president of Strollers.
