Gas prices remain low for holidays The lowest gasoline prices in nearly three years will make automobile trips more affordable for millions of American motorists this holiday season according to AAA.
The current average price of self-serve regular unleaded gasoline in South Dakota Dec. 11 was $1.149. This is nearly 39 cents lower than a year ago, and is about 7 cents lower than a month ago. The average price of gasoline in Sioux Falls is at $1.11, down 35 cents from last year. The Rapid City average is about $1.18, nearly 35 cents lower than last year as well. The national average is $1.115 per gallon, down about 10 cents from last month.
Georgia had the lowest state average Dec. 11 at $.96 per gallon, while Hawaii came in with the highest average of $1.77 per gallon.
AAA said prospects for a continued lowering of gasoline prices hinge on whether the world's oil producers reach agreement on a much-discussed cutback in crude oil output.
