Letters Thanks for support of arts in Vermillion
To the editor:
As another year comes to a close, so do my nine years as a board member and later as president of the Vermillion Area Arts Council.
I would like to thank all of the individuals and families who support and participate in the arts in our community. Thanks, too, to the Plain Talk David Lias and Jill Karolevitz who continue to provide information, news, and "photo opportunities" to enhance our awareness of the arts and humanities in Vermillion.
Special appreciation to the city council, Clay County Commission, Civic Council, the Reese Foundation (Sioux Falls), and South Dakota Historic Preservation for their considerable support in maintaining and preserving the historic building the arts council maintains at 202 Washington Street.
Thanks, too, to the South Dakota State Arts Council for specific support of the two downtown mural projects, to the United Way for building and arts education support, and to the many individuals and businesses who make these projects possible.
And, then, to the artists, writers, thespians, and musicians who continue to enrich our lives you are the heart and soul of our community!
I look forward to many years of programs and events. The Vermillion Can Do! cultural plan will be available soon at the Chamber of Commerce office. I invite everyone to pick up a copy and review the great ideas that came from the surveys and community sessions. Now, it's time to get to work on making things happen!
