Sioux Valley/USD Wellness offers nutrition, weight program The Sioux Valley/USD Wellness Program will offer a new nutrition and weight management program beginning next month.
The LEARN Program for Weight Management will begin the first week in January and will be taught by Amy Meisinger, Sioux Valley Vermillion Medical Center's Wellness Dietitian.
The LEARN Program teaches important weight management principles and helps each participant develop individualized ways to apply these techniques to their daily lives.
LEARN is an acronym that stands for Lifestyles, Exercise, Attitudes, Relationships, and Nutrition which represent building blocks for successful weight management.
The LEARN program, which is also utilized by the Mayo Clinic, consists of 16 weeks with classes held for one hour each week. Key topics of the program include: Guidelines for setting reasonable weight loss goals, how attitude can affect weight loss, how to use the food guide pyramid, self-assessments, exercise and physical activity, motivation, and many more.

Meisinger earned her bachelor of science degree in dietetics for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She completed her dietetic internship at Mayo Medical Center in Rochester, MN, last year and is presently working on her master's degree in exercise science at The University of South Dakota.
To accompany her position as wellness dietitian at SVVMC, she is also a graduate assistant in sports nutrition for USD's athletic department.
