Tanager freshmen escape an upset bid by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers escaped an upset bid and downed the Harrisburg Tigers 47-41 in boys� basketball Dec. 7 at Harrisburg.
�Our team played well for about two-and-a-half quarters, then they had to hold on,� said Vermillion freshmen coach Mark Iverson.
The Tanagers led 10-8 at the end of the first period, led 21-16 at halftime, and then held a lead of 35-26 going into the final period.
The Vermillion freshmen improved its season mark to 1-0, while Harrisburg fell to 0-1.
The Vermillion freshmen made 14 of 25 free throw tries while the Tigers made 10 of 22 free throw attempts.
The winners needed good efforts from several performers.
�Kyle Mollet and Matt Preszler both did a great job on the board,� coach Iverson said. �Chad Tiegen did a good job getting to the foul line.�
