Tanager JV wins in overtime play by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers barely escaped an upset in downing the Harrisburg Tigers 30-29 in a tight overtime battle in boys� basketball Dec. 7 at Harrisburg.
The score was tied 28-28 after regulation.
�In the last eight minutes of the game, we played the best defense so far this season,� said Vermillion JV Coach Rex Huska.
Both sides were plagued by turnovers, with the Tanagers turning it over 19 times, and the Tigers committing 20 turnovers.
The Tanagers led 9-6 at the end of the first period, went into the locker room up 17-14 at halftime, and then led 25-21 going into the fourth quarter.
The Vermillion JV improved its record to 1-1, while Harrisburg dropped to 0-1.
The Vermillion JV made 2 of 10 three-point tries and hit 6 of 12 free throw attempts. The Tanagers hit 11 of 35 field goal attempts, while Harrisburg was 11 of 40 from the field. Harrisburg sank 0 of 7 three-point attempts and made 7 of 14 from the line.
