Tanagers victims of third quarter deficit by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers were defeated by the South Sioux City Cardinals 70-43 in boys� basketball Dec. 14 at South Sioux City, NE after falling prey to a 22-7 third-quarter deficit.
�We did not play a very good game tonight,� said Vermillion varsity coach Jason Huska. �We especially didn�t shoot the ball well. We did get good looks at the basket but we just couldn�t knock �em down. At times we played good defense but when you turn the ball over as many times as we did it�s very difficult to win.�
The Tanagers jumped in front 12-11 after the first quarter, trailed 34-25 after the second quarter, and then trailed 56-32 after the third quarter.
The Vermillion varsity remained winless at 0-4, while South Sioux City is now 3-2.
The Vermillion varsity connected on 0 of 9 three-point tries and hit 9 of 13 free throw tries. The Tanagers sank 17 of 42 from the field, while South Sioux City was 25 of 49 from the field. South Sioux City made 7 of 16 three-point attempts and connected on 13 of 16 from the line.
