Vermillion VFW Auxiliary sponsors essay competition

Vermillion VFW Auxiliary sponsors essay competition The VFW Auxiliary #3061 of Vermillion sponsored an essay contest for all seventh- and eighth-grade students in Clay County on the subject "Is Freedom Really Free?"

Monetary awards were given to the first and second place winners in each class.

Dorothy Lane, Americanism chairwoman, reports the following winners with the first place winner in each class advancing to the district contest:

Grade seven � first � Bo Martz, son of Mr and Mrs. Rick Martz, Wakonda.

Grade seven � second � Edwin Hessman, son of Mr. and Mrs. LaMont Hessman of Wakonda.

Grade eight � first � Mandi Diedd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rick Diedd of Meckling.

Grade eight � second � Erin Hesla, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gregg Hesla of Wakonda.
