Vermillion volleyball team rebounds; conquers Canton by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanager volleyball team rebounded Dec. 13 from their heartbreaking three game loss to Harrisburg by dominating the visiting C-Hawks from Canton 15-11, 15-7 for its first home victory. The junior varsity suffered another loss, 15-10, 5-15, 12-15 while the freshman C team had a two game sweep 15-10, 15-12 win.

The C team coach, Angie Bjorkman, highlighted her team�s performance.

�We�ve been working hard at improving each part of our game, in practice sessions. Tonight our goal was to get a block at the net, and Melissa Olson came up with two solos which really got the team motivated, and led them to the win,� she said.

Other players cited for their play were Brittany Weydert � four aces, Annie Carlson � two aces, two kills; Jackie Thomas � two kills, eight digs; Ellen Odson � three assists; and Laura Aga � five digs. The C team season record stands at 2-0.

The junior varsity coach, Angela Golesh, chose to recognize Dani Weydert � nine service points, five aces, three kills, one block, eight digs; Nikki Nelson � six service points, three aces; Whitney Tolsma � five kills, eight digs; Annie Carlson � four kills; Morgan Hollingsworth � three kills, two solo blocks; Delayna Gale � 11 assists; Ellen Odson � five assists; Whitney Lawrence � eight digs; and Brittany Sand � one block.

Head Coach Lenni Billberg was pleased with the varsity showing in their win in the Canton match.

The Tanagers were led by Allison Stewart with a two PE, 10 SP, three aces, five D, two K, one BA; and Ashley Bjorkman with 1.6 PE, four SP, one ace, three D, two BA, eight K and 0 .411 AE. Karen Sorenson had 2.7 PE, four SP, one ace, one D, four K; Tessa Tuetken � 2.2 PE, one SP, eight K, one BS, 0.466 AE; Dru Van Kley � two BA, four SP, one D; Whitney Tolsma 1.6 PE, 11 D; and Meggie Donnelly � 19 A, one K, eight SP, three aces and two D.

Be aware that the abbreviations will be used during the whole volleyball season.
