Rogge selected for junior honor choir Ben Rogge, an eighth-grader at Vermillion Middle School, was selected to participate in the 2002 South Dakota American Choral Director's Junior Honor Choir.
The choir performed in Rapid City Jan. 18-19, in conjunction with the annual SD-ACDA Mid-Winter Conference.
The honor choir was under the direction of noted choral conductor, composer, author and clinician, Sally K. Albrecht. They performed works by Handel, Mozart, Sally Albrecht and Jay Althouse.
Jan Ireland, vocal director at Vermillion Middle School, said that students are selected for the choir based on an acappella taped audition. Rogge performed the bass part of Handel's Hallelujah, Amen, as well as other vocal criteria. Hundreds of singers from across the state work with their choral director to submit tapes to a panel of judges.
