SDPTV to air All-State Chorus, Orchestra concert South Dakota Public Television will broadcast the 48th annual South Dakota All-State Chorus and Orchestra Grand Finale Concert on Thursday, Jan. 17, at 8 p.m. CT/7 MT and Sunday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. CT/noon MT.
The concert, performed at the Barnett Center on the campus of Northern State University in Aberdeen, features the best high school musicians from around the state.
The concert features selections from both the choir and the orchestra, as well as two combined numbers. The combined pieces feature John Rutter's What Sweeter Music and The Promise of Living by Aaron Copland.
The All-State Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Lynda Hassler from the Conservatory of Music at Capital University in Columbus, OH, will perform six numbers, including G.F. Handel's Your Voices Tune, Mosquitoes by Chatman and My Soul's Been Anchored in the Lord.
Susan Haig, the newly appointed conductor of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, conducts this year's All-State Orchestra. In addition to the combined number, the orchestra will perform the Overture from The Merry Wives of Windsor and Dimitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5, Movements 3 and 4.
