South Dakota men lose to UNO 77-70 South Dakota men's basketball team (11-3, 3-3 in the NCC) dropped a 77-70 decision to Nebraska-Omaha (13-3, 4-1 in the NCC) in North Central Conference action Jan. 5 before 2,750 at Sapp Fieldhouse in Omaha, NE.
Despite 20 points from freshman point guard Josh Mueller, South Dakota was unable to hold onto a double digit lead in the second half. The Mavericks outscored the Coyotes 26-6 over the final nine minutes of the game to grab the win. Mueller also had six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Aside from Mueller, three other Coyotes reached double figures. Senior shooting guard Paul Marshall had 15 points and four rebounds. Senior forward Jimmie Foster had 13 points and senior forward Eric Hickenbottom had 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and one blocked shot.
Overall, the Coyotes hit 24 of 55 field goals for 43.6 percent, including seven of 20 from the three-point arc for 35 percent. They were 15 of 19 from the free throw line for 78.9 percent. UNO hit 25 of 61 field goals for 41 percent and they were six of 23 from the three-point line for 26.1 percent.
They hit 21 of 28 free throws for 75 percent. Eddie King had 16 points to lead UNO.
Nelson added 13 points and Hahn had 10 points.
