Tanager freshmen win overtime thriller 43-41 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers defeated the Sioux City East Orange 43-41 in an overtime thriller in boys� basketball Jan. 7 at Sioux City East.

The score was tied 39-39 after regulation.

Vermillion�s offense was led by Kyle Mollet with 16 points and seven rebounds, and Ben Oberle, with 13 points and six rebounds.

�Kyle scored four points in overtime,� said Vermillion freshmen Coach Mark Iverson. �Ben had an excellent, over all game.�

The Tanagers jumped in front 9-6 after the first quarter, trailed 24-16 after the second quarter, and then trailed 32-26 after the third quarter.

�We played with intensity and never gave up here � even with an eight point deficit at halftime,� said Coach Iverson.

The Vermillion freshmen now have a record of 2-2, while Sioux City East fell to 2-2.

The Vermillion freshmen made 3 of 12 three-point attempts and hit 8 of 20 from the line. The Tanagers sank 16 of 44 field goal attempts, while Sioux City East was 16 of 40 from the field. Sioux City East sank 1 of 11 three-point tries and sank 8 of 13 free throw attempts.
