Tanager JV victorious over Beresford Jan. 11 by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers topped the Beresford Watchdogs 55-47 in boys� junior varsity basketball Jan. 11 at home. The Tanagers shot 50 percent from the field in the contest.
Jared Burcham scored 13 points, and was three for four from the free throw line. Collin Prosser added 11 points, and sank five of seven free throws. Tyler Brown contributed seven points, made seven assists, and stole the ball six times.
�Adam Brunick was our top scorer with 15 points,� said Vermillion JV coach Rex Huska. �He sank four out of five from 3-point range.�
The Tanagers fell behind 6-3 at the end of the first period, led 24-20 after the second period, and then led 38-28 going into the final period.
The Vermillion JV carried the game from long range, making 7 of 12 three pointers to 3 of 10 for Beresford.
�We are starting to play more consistent basketball, but are still streaking at times,� said coach Huska.
The Vermillion JV improved its record to 4-2, while Beresford dropped to 4-3.
The Vermillion JV hit 14 of 24 free throw tries. The Tanagers hit 17 of 34 field goals, while Beresford was 14 of 36 from the field. The Watchdogs sank 16 of 24 free throw tries.
