Vermillion drops low-scoring match by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers were nipped by the Bon Homme Cavaliers 17-16 in boys� basketball Jan. 8 at Tyndall in a matchup that was close throughout.
Scoring was at a minimum in this match between Vermillion and Bon Homme because the teams played six minute quarters and employed various zone defenses.
The Tanagers jumped in front 4-3 at the end of the first period, trailed 12-8 at halftime, and then trailed 14-11 going into the final period.
�I thought that coming off of nearly four weeks of inactivity we didn�t play up to our potential and reacted both defensively and offensively a step or two too slow,� said Vermillion JV Coach Rex Huska.
The Vermillion JV saw its record fall to 2-2, while Bon Homme upped its mark to 2-2.
The Vermillion JV hit 0 of 1 three-pointers and hit 2 of 8 free throw tries. The Tanagers made 7 of 19 field goal attempts, while Bon Homme was 5 of 21 from the field. Bon Homme hit 1 of 8 three-point attempts and made 6 of 11 free throw attempts.
