Vermillion JV nipped in overtime by Orioles by Jim Prosser The Vermillion Tanagers lost to the Lennox Orioles 59-52 in an overtime battle in junior varsity boys� basketball Jan. 17 at home.
The score was tied 48-48 after regulation.
Jared Burcham had a great fourth quarter by hitting three of four field goals. Two of them were 3-pointers.
�Adam Brunick added 10 points,� said Vermillion JV coach Rex Huska.
The Tanagers fell behind 14-11 at the end of the first period, trailed 23-22 after the second quarter, and then trailed 30-28 going into the fourth quarter.
The loss was aided by the Tanagers committing 20 turnovers.
�We have to play all four quarters,� said coach Huska. �We fell behind and then we had to have a great fourth quarter. And tonight, we just fell a little short.�
The loss dropped Vermillion JV to a record of 4-4, while Lennox improved to 3-4.
The Vermillion JV made 3 of 11 three-point attempts and made 13 of 23 free throw tries. The Tanagers sank 18 of 49 field goals, while Lennox was 17 of 42 from the field. Lennox sank 3 of 8 three-pointers and made 22 of 33 free throw tries.
