VHS wrestlers compete in five team quadrangular dual by Jim Prosser The quadrangular meet held on Saturday Jan. 12 at the Harrisburg Invitational involved Flandreau, Beresford, Adrian MN, Vermillion and the host Tigers. Again, six weight classes from Vermillion had to be forfeited.
�We saw some excellent competition on Saturday. It makes for a long day especially when you have to give up 36 points before the dual even starts. We had a slow start, but were able to mentally focus by the beginning of the second round,� said coach Casey O�Connor.

In the last round versus the Adrian, MN Dragons, the only winner for Vermillion was O�Connor with a pin of Josh Winselman. The highly rated and ranked team in Minnesota had a 78-6 score, with pins in every one of the other seven matches with Vermillion.
O�Connor is undefeated this season, with a 4-0 record. The season win/loss records for other Tanager grapplers are: Hubert, 1-3; Nielsen, 0-4; LaMie, 1-3; Hayner, 2-2; Cusick, 1-3; Birgen, 1-3; Simons, 2-2.
Coach O�Connor made the following evaluations of the individual team members at the meet:
? Kyle Hubert is continuing to gain valuable mat experience with every match.
? Brett Nielsen stepped up from JV to wrestle 112 varsity for us. Brett has show great improvements throughout the season.
? JJ LaMie showed a lot of heart on Saturday. He is wrestling up a weight class to help the team. JJ is another wrestler to watch over the next few years.
? Andy Hayner did a nice job for us on Saturday. He went 2-2 on the day. Over the last two weeks, Andy has been wrestling very physical and mentally smart. He has eliminated the mental mistakes from the beginning of the year.
? Kellen had a nice match against Cawthorne from Harrisburg, which ended with Kellen on top with a 4-3 decision. Kellen displayed nice mat movement, which enables him to take Cawthorne down in the third period.
? Brad had a great match against Dullerud from Harrisburg. Brad pinned his opponent in 4:54. Brad has continued to improve his technical skills throughout the season.
? Ray had a great day by pinning three opponents and winning by a 7-3 decision over Aleck from Harrisburg. Ray has improved his record to an impressive 28-0. He is continuing to wrestle smart and aggressive.
